NomadTracks for off-roading

The official trail map, under your wheels

Every OHV area has an official trail map — usually a PDF from the forest service or state agency, often georeferenced already. NomadTracks turns it into a live map: your position on the legal trail system, fully offline, with every ride recorded. For the long expedition version, see the road-trips-and-overlanding page.

Agency OHV maps, imported

Forest-service and state OHV maps come as GeoPDFs — import one and your position tracks across the official trail network, exactly as the agency drew it. Stay on legal trails without guessing.

Every ride, recorded

Distance, speed and elevation for every loop. Compare runs with Ghostrider — race your own previous recording and see live whether you're ahead.

Staging area, marked

Pin the trailer, fuel and camp as POIs. When the loops all start looking the same at dusk, navigate straight back with off-track alerts.

Offline where the trails are

OHV areas rarely have coverage. Maps, GPS and recording all run with the phone in airplane mode — which also saves the battery for the ride home.

Free, no account: recording, your own offline maps, GPX export and the Apple Watch app are all part of the free core. Download NomadTracks free

Questions

FAQ

Where do I get ATV/OHV trail maps for the app?

From the agencies that manage the areas: US Forest Service motor-vehicle-use maps and state OHV-program maps are published free as PDFs or GeoPDFs, and many were distributed through Avenza's store. Import them into NomadTracks directly — georeferenced ones align themselves.

Does it show whether I'm on a legal trail?

It shows your live position on the official agency map — which is exactly the document that defines the legal trails. NomadTracks adds no trail data of its own, so what you see is what the land manager published.

Can I use it as a group?

Each rider carries the same imported map, and tracks, POIs and maps export as files (GPX or bundles) that you can share directly — no accounts needed.

What about dust, gloves and mounts?

Record from the Apple Watch or start the recording at the staging area and forget it — live stats show on the Lock Screen without unlocking the phone.
