Vienna Woods: 21.9 km via Rieglerhütte and the Jubiläumswarte

A brick church at the start, autumn paths through the Vienna Woods, a wide view over the city and a gold dome on the way home: this 21.9-kilometer run starts and finishes in Breitensee. Between those city streets, the recording reaches Rieglerhütte and the Jubiläumswarte before returning via the Kirche am Steinhof.

The export is called “Trail Half M”; the recorded distance is a little longer than a half marathon. It contains 2 hours 47 minutes and about 479 meters of ascent, with repeated climbs rather than one continuous uphill. Six geotagged photos mark the changes from streets to meadows, forest and lookout.

From Breitensee into the woods

The first photo places the start beside St. Laurentius in Breitensee. From there, the line heads west and climbs towards the green edge of Vienna. By the Pelzer Rennweg, the gallery shows broad paths splitting beside an autumn meadow. This outing includes city streets as well as woodland trails; its variety comes from linking them into one long circuit.

The northern arc to Rieglerhütte

The route continues north and west through the forest. A painted trail mark on a tree and a carpet of leaves give the woodland section its character. Near the far end of this arc, the Rieglerhütte appears behind its gate, with the name clearly visible above the entrance. The photograph records the building from outside; it does not establish opening hours or access to the grounds.

Above the trees at the Jubiläumswarte

On the return leg, the track reaches the Jubiläumswarte. The panorama was taken at the lookout’s coordinates: forest fills the foreground and Vienna spreads out beyond it. After the enclosed paths earlier in the run, this is the broadest view in the gallery. The elevation profile includes the approach and the recorded movement at the tower.

A gold dome on the way home

The final selected photo shows Otto Wagner’s Church of St. Leopold at Steinhof, with its gold dome above the pale façade. The run passes outside the church before descending back towards Breitensee. Its final GPS point is close to the starting church, completing the circuit through the western hills.
